According to the latest "Electric Private Vehicle License Plate Fee Structure," the first tier fee (effective November 1, 2025) is as follows:
The annual license plate fee for electric private vehicles will increase by approximately 15-20% annually in three phases from 2026 to 2029, starting in the fifth phase from 2029. Existing owners will enjoy a four-month grace period, with license plate fees approximately 25-40% lower than those for gasoline vehicles (averaging approximately HK$7,500), maintaining a cost advantage.
The new fees will be implemented from September 28, 2025, while the existing meter charges for parking spaces for trucks, buses, and tour buses will remain unchanged.
Traffic violation fines adjusted
Starting July 9, 2025, adjustments to fixed-rate traffic violations have taken effect, markingthe first increase since 1994, aimed at enhancing road safety.
• Speeding: Fine increased from HK$320 to HK$480 and up
• Illegal parking: Fine increased from HK$320 to HK$400
Other violations (such as disobeying traffic signs): Fines have generally increased by about 50%.
